Act One Theatre Corporation - 722-5652

Established in 1995, this group is a professional company that specializes in "portable theater." The group will prepare and perform a program of original audience-participation murder mysteries, live performances of old-time radio plays, or just about anything their customers can think of.

Arizona Rose Theater Company - 888-0509

Founded in 1986, this high-spirited company of community performers offers a variety of original musical theater productions throughout the year, with a commitment to present only entertaining productions or plays that have overall positive resolutions. Arizona Theatre Company - 622-2823

Based in Tucson, ATC is the only resident professional theater in Arizona and the only regional theater in the United States to perform in two cities. Committed to presenting quality theater, it produces six professionally designed, directed and acted productions annually in Tucson and Phoenix, including classical and contemporary dramas, musicals and new works by emerging playwrights. Performances are Tues.-Sun. at various times.

Arts for All, Inc./Third St. Kids - 622-4100

Established in 1985, Arts for All, Inc. is an arts organization that offers arts experiences to people with and without disabilities. Included in its many programs are the Third Street Ensemble Company, a youth-based performance group made up of performers with and without disabilities, Arts for All Presents, and a Community Theatre series. All productions are integrated with persons with and without disabilities after an audition process. Professional directors, playwrights and teachers work toward a high-quality performance. Performance venues vary.

Ballyhoo Productions - 299-8101

A professional touring company established 9 years ago, Ballyhoo Productions presents Broadway and off-Broadway plays with casts of two or three actors in an intimate setting. Performances to be announced.


The Bianco Theatre Company

The mission of the Bianco Theatre Company is to strive to develop, promote and foster in their young performers self concept, self-esteem, poise, stage presence, vocal and acting skills, musical knowledge and appreciation and a knowledge of musical theater. This season, Bianco Theatre Company presents Peter Pan (in December 2000) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (in May 2001). Call for dates and times.

Bloodhut Productions - 795-0010

This performance ensemble creates theater out of personal stories and each year premiers a new work developed from improvisation. Bloodhut's next production includes a one-woman show Feb. 2-11 at the historic Y and an all-new ensemble work April 26-May 6 at PCC Center for the Arts.

Borderlands Theater - 322-9021

This season, Borderlands Theater is celebrating 15 years of ongoing commitment to presenting the voices of our border region through critically acclaimed productions and provocative new works. The group is expanding its collaborations by hosting nationally and internationally acclaimed artists Luisa Huertas from Mexico, guest director Andy Alcala and MacArthur Award-winning playwright/performer Luis Alfaro.

Established in 1983, this community theater group is made up of actors of all skill levels from professional to amateur. Its repertoire includes classic comedies and serious dramas. All productions are presented at Catalina United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in dinner theater format.

Desert Players Theatre - 733-0733

Green Thursday Theatre Project - 795-4322

Green Thursday Theatre Project is Tucson's newest nonprofit theatrical company producing high-quality, cutting-edge gay and lesbian works for the stage. In addition to mainstage shows, Green Thursday will be producing cabaret, sketch comedy and experimental performances at various venues throughout Tucson and the Southwest.

LOST RIVER theatreproject - 721-9640

Conceived in 1993, LOST RIVER theatreproject was founded for the purpose of performing stage classics, old and new, to enlighten and entertain the seasoned theatergoer as well as attract first-time audiences. The group, under the direction of managing artistic director Hal Melfi, will produce new local playwrights alongside established works with an emphasis on community outreach through schools and the workplace.

Mat Bevel Company - 622-0192

Mat Bevel Institute, home to the Surrealistic Pop Science Theater and the School of Intuition, is a venue for the visionary arts dedicated to the purpose of artistic inspiration. A special niche for avant-garde productions in an all-around array of acrobatic artifacts. An eclectic assortment of music, poetry, theater, comedy, dances and kids' events.

Mimesis Productions - 529-0206

Established in 1998, MP employs both professional and semiprofessional actors to perform one original full-length play each season at ATC's Tucson Center for the Performing Arts. This season in March Bruce Zortman's Berlin-Friedenau: An Aftermath-of-the-Holocaust Experience focuses on a young refugee's struggle to regain his shattered identity by returning to Berlin, the place where he last saw his parents. Newsreel projections of Nazi Germany and the use of masks enhance the artistic development of this powerful and controversial new drama. Performances are May 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 and May 6 and 13 at 2 p.m., at the TCC Leo Rich Theatre.

The Old Pueblo Playwrights - 743-0940

New plays, written by Southern Arizona authors, routinely run the gamut from comedy to tragedy, and are performed as staged readings with actors carrying scripts in hand. The group's Festival of New Plays is January 4-7 at the Cabaret Theatre at 330 S. Scott Ave.

Quintessential Productions Inc. - 798-0708

The Quintessential Stage is on the move, to a new home now under construction. Quintessential's new downtown performance space is scheduled to open in Fall 2000. Plays on tap for the company's fourth season include Noel Coward's flighty comedy Private Lives, Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, acclaimed Irish playwright Conor McPherson's The Weir, Tennessee Williams' magnificent A Streetcar Named Desire, and William Inge's summery Picnic.

Theater League - 791-4266

Theater League is a not-for-profit, civic performing arts organization based in Kansas City, Missouri, and dedicated to the development of professional legitimate theater. Founded in 1976, the organization has brought the thrill of the American Musical Theater to performing arts lovers in Arizona and throughout the USA. This year's series features three musicals on stage in Tucson and Phoenix. All performances at the TCC Music Hall.

UA Theatre Arts/Arizona Repertory Theatre

UA Department of Theatre Arts has been performing theatrical productions for over 60 years. Dedicated to exploring universal themes through classical dramas, comedies, musical theater and contemporary plays, it strives to educate, enlighten and stimulate audiences. The Arizona Repertory Theatre showcases the Department's professional theater training programs in acting, musical theater and stage design/technology, mounting a season of six fully produced plays each year. Performances are held in the Peter Marroney Theatre and the flexible Laboratory Theatre in the UA Fine Arts Complex.
