Arizona Balalaika Orchestra - 327-7168

This spirited, costumed Russian folk orchestra begins its 21st year under the baton of new conductor Dr. Alexander Tentser. Its annual concerts on February 3-4, 2001 at Pima College Performing Arts Center will feature professional guest soloists, the lively Kalinka Russian Dancers, choreographed by Richard Holden, and the Sons of Orpheus Men's Chorus, directed by Grayson Hirst. The Orchestra also performs November 5, 2000 at the Casas Adobs Congregational Church.

Arizona Friends of Chamber Music - 577-3769

Now in its 53rd year of bringing world-class chamber music to Tucson, AFCM will present seven concerts this season, as well as the week-long, much-acclaimed Winter Chamber Music Festival and the popular "Piano and Friends" Sunday matinee series. Entirely supported by audience contributions, the group regularly sells out its concerts. All concerts held in the TCC Leo Rich Theatre.

Catalina Chamber Orchestra - 624-0170

Entering its 10th season, the Catalina Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1991 by Dr. Enrique Lasansky to provide a performing outlet for professional musicians. The orchestra performs the classics, including the holiday favorite, Handel's Messiah, as well as world premiers by Arizona composers. A summer program, The Young People's Concert Under the Stars, features the winners of the Young Artist's Competition.

Chamber Music from Echo Glen - 745-5830

Chamber Music from Echo Glen was established in 1985 as the professional portion of Chamber Music in the Mountains, a chamber music camp for string players from high school age to college students. Performances take place in the first two weeks of August at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church


Civic Orchestra of Tucson

The Civic Orchestra of Tucson is celebrating its 26th season and 21 years under the direction of Herschel Kreloff. The group gives seven concerts each season, plus the Young Artist's Competition in February, where entrants compete for prize money and a chance to perform with the orchestra.

The Foothills Phil - 577-5304

This intergenerational orchestra (ages 10-84) is conducted by Laszlo Veres. Two performances will be given during the 2000-2001 year in the Catalina Foothills High School Auditorium: December 10, 2000 and May 6, 2001.

Heavy Metal Brass Quintet - 731-0867

Established in 1991, HMBQ is comprised of classically trained professional Tucson musicians. The group is known for high-quality chamber music concerts, unique community performances and interesting educational programs. A dynamic blend of distinctive arrangements, classic brass works, collaborative projecs and a classical sound make HMBQ a popular and exciting ensemble.

The Music Samplers - 296-3640

The Music Samplers, a salon orchestra of Tucson, presents concerts from a library of familiar and fun music. This library was originally arranged for a small orchestra for presentation in theatres in support of vaudeville and silent movies; hence it became known as "pit orchestra" music.

Philharmonic Orchestra of Tucson - 326-2793

An award-winning symphony orchestra of more than 100 musicians ages 12 to 19 from four Southern Arizona counties, the Philharmonia serves the greater Tucson metropolitan area and outlying communities, presenting professional caliber performances at the TCC Music Hall, performing outreach concerts throughout the state, and offering specialized training under the guidance of Tucson Symphony musicians. In June 2000 the Philharmonia made its debut performance at New York's famed Carnegie Hall, becoming the first orchestra from Arizona to present a concert there.

Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra - 323-7166

A part of the Tucson musical scene since 1979, the symphony combines the talents of professional and amateur musicians to form a dynamic community orchestra. SASO has explored a rich diversity of classic symphony works and introduced new music by American composers. All concerts are Sundays at 3 p.m

Tucson Pops Orchestra - 722-5853

Established in 1955, the Tucson Pops is a 50-member professional orchestra that offers 10 free concerts each spring and fall. Conductor Laszlo Veres presents an eclectic program for the whole family of popular, semi-classical and classical favorites. Free concerts take place in DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center Sundays at 7 p.m.

Tucson Symphony Orchestra - 882-8585

Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Tucson's foremost professional orchestra, presents a full season (September-May) of classical, pops, chamber and ensemble concerts, which offer the highest musical standards. Led by dynamic George Hanson, now in his fifth year as musical director and conductor, for its 72nd season, the TSO hosts guest artists such as legendary Spanish pianist Alicia de Laroccha, composer Marvin Hamlisch, pianist Lorin Hollendar and guitarist Sharon Isbin, among many others.
