Bank One Tucson - International Mariachi Conference

The first International Mariachi Conference was held in April 1983, to raise funds for La Frontera Center, a nonprofit behavioral health and drug abuse rehabilitation organization. The six-day extravaganza offers Mariachi and Baile Folklorico dance workshops, concerts, a fiesta, art exhibit and mariachi mass.

"Simon Peter" 23rd Annual Passion Play of Tucson - 327-5560

Since 1979, Katherine Genders has produced and directed an annual Easter Passion Play. The three-hour musical drama, which has a cast of 100-plus and a full orchestra, covers the life and crucifixion of Christ and has starred Will Hannah as Jesus every year for 23 years. No admission charge. 7 p.m. nightly and Sun. 2 p.m., April 10-15, 2001.

Tucson Kitchen Musicians/Tuscon Folk Festival

The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association, a nonprofit organization, has been supporting acoustic music since 1985. The Association presents the Tucson Folk Festival each year featuring national, regional, and local performers. The next Tucson Folk Festival will be held the first weekend of May 2001.

Tucson Sing-In, Inc. - 745-6054

The 24th Annual Community Messiah Sing-in, conducted by Jeffry Jahn, will be held Dec. 4 at Grace Chapel, 6180 E. Pima. Soloists will be Lisa Staples (soprano), Joan Brundage (alto), Stan Kruggel (tenor)and Mark Jarvis (bass). There is no admission charge although a freewill offering is taken. The audience is the chorus. Scores are available for purchase or rental.
